Nepal lose to Afghanistan by 7 wickets

Nov 17, 2017- ‘Afghanistan Under-19 beat Nepal Under-19 ‘ by seven wickets in the second semi-finals being played at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Friday to reach the finals of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup.

The Afghan U-19 team will play the finals against Pakistan U-19, who defeated Bangladesh by 2 runs via Duckworth–Lewis method as rain stopped the play on Thursday..

Losing the toss to Afghanistan, Nepal U-19 was called to bat first and had posted a meager total of 103 after being all out in 28 overs.

Despite heavy rain stopping the play after the 18th over, the Afghani team reached the target in 20.3 overs losing just three wickets.

Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz made it look too easy for the Afghans as he 71 scored runs off 65 deliveries before being caught by Shahab Alam off Sandeep Lamichhane’s delivery in 19.1 overs. Ikram Ali Khil supported Gurbaz and scored 18 runs.

Nepali bowlers came back strong but too late as Pawan Sarraf and Lamichhane took two wickets in two overs after the match resumed following the rains. Sarraf claimed the wicket of Ikram in 18.2 overs.

Sarraf, Lamichhane and Kamal Singh Airee took one wicket each for Nepal. Afghan opener Ibrahim Zadran was caught behind down the leg side in 5.1 overs by Aasif Sheikh off Airee’s delivery.

Earlier, Nepal showcased a poor batting performance against their rival with openers failing to stay in the crease for long.

However, Anil Kumar Sah came out to the rescue and scored 50 runs off 57 balls before being bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in 23.2 overs. Other Nepali batsmen could not score in double figures.

For Afghanistan, Mujeeb was the star bowler taking 6 Nepali wickets for just 28 runs in his 10 over spell with an economy of 2.8. Likewise, Qais Ahmad took 2 wickets in his six over spell.
